Modular Pre-Analytic (MPA) Instrumentation

State-of-the-art Modular Pre-Analytic instrumentation (MPA) has been operating at Westman Lab (WL) since November 2010, supporting DSM’s strategic plans for standardized, sustainable, high-quality laboratory testing.

Approximately 90% of Westman Lab’s Biochemistry testing is run on the new analyzers which automates many of the front end processes such as centrifuging, aliquoting and labeling. The efficiencies of the new MPA will allow DSM to provide more consistent turn around time to our patients and clients. Initial data has already shown an improvement in turn around time for samples referred in to Westman Lab.

Following the success at WL, MPA’s will soon be implemented at DSM's Health Sciences Centre and St. Boniface Hospital labs.

MPA implementation marks the final stage of the Urban Analyzer Replacement Project which began in July 2008. The project scope involved ten laboratories, the implementation of 35 new analyzer units and three sample processing automation lines.
