DSM Introduces New Early Detection Testing for Chronic Kidney Disease
In partnership with the Manitoba Renal Program, DSM has introduced a screening test which has proven valuable in early detection of chronic kidney disease. eGFR (estimated glomerular filtration rate) calculation is now automatically provided when a serum creatinine is ordered, at most DSM sites.
"Manitoba has the highest national rate of end stage kidney disease,” said Dr. Mauro Verrelli, Manitoba Renal Program Medical Director. “Provincial eGFR reporting is a major component of the Manitoba Renal Program’s new prevention strategy that expects to change this statistic by identifying the high risk population early and implementing treatment to prevent kidney failure.”
This additional screening service meets the standards for early detection of chronic kidney disease and was introduced in conjunction with an awareness program launched by the Manitoba Renal Program. The program aims to increase knowledge and access to optimal chronic kidney disease prevention strategies through collaboration, education and sustainable partnerships.
