Delivering Diagnostic Services to Manitobans

DSM Inc. was created in 2002 as the not-for-profit corporation responsible for all of Manitoba's public laboratory services and for rural diagnostic imaging services. Our vision is to provide a high-quality, state-of-the-art diagnostic system for Manitoba that is known for its excellent customer service and which is centrally managed sustainable and cost-effective.

Results That Matter

DSM is responsible for diagnostic service delivery at 77 sites throughout Manitoba, supported by over 1,500 dedicated professionals. Unified by a single vision and common goals, all sites will work together as one organization to provide optimal service to both physicians and patients.

Quality Leader

DSM’s strategy is to be a quality leader in laboratory medicine and diagnostic imaging in Canada and maintain or enhance existing standards. As a provincially integrated organization DSM will have the capacity to conduct all tests for the province. Key to completion of the vision is the establishment of a provincial Lab Information System (LIS) and rural Radiology Information System (RIS). Through this technological support, DSM can shift the emphasis from where a test is performed, to how well it can be performed, independent of test location.

Provincial Resources

DSM established Discipline teams to act as a provincial resource for all DSM sites across Manitoba, providing expertise in Clinical Biochemistry and Genetics, Hematopathology, Immunology, Microbiology, Pathology, Transfusion Medicine and Diagnostic Imaging.

Background

DSM was created in 2002 to position Manitoba’s public laboratory services and rural imaging services to meet the challenges that the industry was facing, including an increasing demand for services and technological innovation, growing expectations for quality control and standardization, a need for Information Management and a growing shortage of skilled technical, medical and scientific staff.

Provincial lab staff and rural diagnostic imaging staff transitioned to the DSM organization in stages from 2006-2009. The merger of Westman Laboratory in Brandon with DSM officially completed the provincial diagnostic network in the fall of 2009.
