Project Overview
A $12-Million Redevelopment Project is underway at Westman Laboratory in Brandon, which will better position the lab as a major referral centre for Manitoba. The project includes renovation of current space as well as an expansion which will house all departments on a single floor within the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Enhanced work environments will allow for improved workflow and efficiencies. Additional upgrades include a pneumatic tube system for sending samples from the hospital to the lab and state-of-the-art analytical equipment. Staff will also benefit from improvements to the heating, cooling and ventilation systems.

Construction will be completed in a step-wise approach to ensure that laboratory services are not disrupted.

As part of DSM’s provincial diagnostic network, Westman Laboratory is a point of access for facility in-patients to a comprehensive range of laboratory services, including Biochemistry and Genetics, Hematopathology, Immunology, Microbiology, Transfusion Medicine, Surgical Pathology, Autopsy and Cytology, for the purpose of diagnosis, pre and post operative testing and treatment monitoring.

DSM’s Westman Laboratory is also a referral center serving medical clinics, nursing homes and other health service centres within the Brandon Regional Health Authority as well as for 117 rural facilities across Manitoba.

The state-of-the-art lab will be LEED (Leadership in Energy and Development) Silver certified in accordance with the new ‘Green Building’ requirements from the Manitoba Government, which means that materials and construction techniques used will minimize environmental impact now and into the future.
