Medical Site Manager – Westman Laboratory

Diagnostic Services of Manitoba (DSM) is the not-for-profit corporation responsible for all of Manitoba's public laboratory services and for rural diagnostic imaging services. Our vision is to deliver a centrally managed diagnostic system for Manitoba that is sustainable, state-of-the-art, cost-effective and known for its high quality and exceptional customer service.

Key features of the facilities include:

• Approximately 330 acute inpatient beds at Brandon Regional Health Authority
• Day Surgery and Endoscopy Units - Five main operating theatres plus gynaecology and ophthalmology
• Radiology Department with Ultrasound, CT scanning, Nuclear Medicine and MRI

Job Prerequisites:

• Medical degree from a recognized university
• Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Pathology, or equivalent qualifications
• Eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba.
• Demonstrated experience in a medical leadership role.

Desirable Qualifications:

• A working knowledge of all aspects of anatomic pathology and familiarity with all disciplines of laboratory medicine, including a working knowledge of the laboratory accreditation process.
• Demonstrated leadership ability in a complex, rapidly changing environment.
• Demonstrated ability to promote teamwork, collaboration and partnership.
• A strong commitment to client (patient & physician) satisfaction and quality health service.
• Knowledge of the principles of management and medical management.

Job Description Overview (a complete job description is available upon request):

• The Medical Site Manager will:
a. Assist the Pathology Medical Director and Chief Medical Officer in the planning and coordination of medical service delivery based on a province-wide model and developing a centralized system.
b. Participate in the Pathology Medical Advisory Committee (PMAC) and work collaboratively to:
i. Establish clinical standards, which will be common to all sites;
ii. Develop common interdisciplinary program standards in the province; and
iii. Establish policies and procedures, rules and regulations, where appropriate.
c. Provide medical/scientific clarification, feedback or direction to lab staff as required.
d. Ensure WL Laboratory Medical staff observe applicable Brandon Medical Staff By-laws.
e. Oversee compliance with approved quality assurance standards and participates with in person or through a delegate on the anatomic pathology standards committee.
f. Oversee the fair and equitable distribution of workload among site Laboratory Medical staff at WL.
g. Monitor case turnaround time and overdue lists for site Laboratory Medical staff at WL.
h. Serve as a liaison between WL Laboratory Medical staff and the Pathology Medical Director and ensures ongoing communication.
