It's Safe to Ask

The Manitoba Institute for Patient Safety's 'Its Safe to Ask' campaign promotes improved patient care by encouraging patients to ask three simple but important questions of their health care provider:

  1. What is my health problem?

  2. What do I need to do?

  3. Why do I need to do this?

Understanding the answers to these questions will allow patients to actively participate in their health care, which will ultimately lead to increased patient safety.

Do you want to know why your blood is being drawn? Ask!

The person drawing your blood is not familiar with your clinical condition and won't know why your physician ordered your tests. You are encouraged to find out more information directly from your physician.

If you would like more information on laboratory tests, Lab Tests Online provides a comprehensive description of diagnostic tests. It is a unique website, offering substantial information on many tests used by physicians for diagnostic purposes. Lab Tests Online is non-commercial website and is a product of collaboration of a number of North American professional societies representing the lab community.
