Dr. Mark Del Bigio – Building a Pediatric Autopsy database for the Province of Manitoba

Dr. Del Bigio has created a computerized searchable database of pediatric autopsies from 1990-2010. Thus far the database has been used to retrospectively search for non-natural and traumatic deaths of children in Manitoba. This will allow detection of changes in patterns of death in children, providing an important marker of societal health. A publishable manuscript is expected to be completed by winter 2010. Additional funding is being sought from other sources to allow searching of the data in earlier decades.
